Elon Musk’s X and xAI Sue Apple and OpenAI Over Alleged Anticompetitive Practices

Elon Musk’s X and xAI have filed a lawsuit against Apple and OpenAI, accusing the two companies of colluding to restrict competition in the artificial intelligence market. The filing alleges that Apple, in an effort to protect its smartphone dominance, has partnered with OpenAI, described in the complaint as holding a monopolistic position in generative AI chatbots.

The legal action comes amid escalating tensions between Musk and Sam Altman, with Musk previously challenging OpenAI’s transition to a for-profit structure and attempting an unsolicited $97.4 billion takeover bid, which was rejected.

Apple and OpenAI announced their partnership last June, with ChatGPT integration into Apple systems expected later this year. Both companies have yet to issue statements regarding the lawsuit.
