Dario Amodei, co-founder and CEO of Anthropic, is in India this week to establish the company’s first office in Bengaluru and advance talks with Mukesh Ambani’s Reliance Industries on a potential partnership, according to TechCrunch. The visit marks Anthropic’s strongest push yet into its second-largest market after the United States.
Amodei is meeting Ambani and senior Reliance executives in Mumbai to discuss expanding access to Claude, Anthropic’s AI assistant, across India. He is also expected to meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi and other top government officials during his trip.
Anthropic’s expansion follows the launch of Reliance’s new Reliance Intelligence AI initiative, which partners with major technology firms including Google and Meta. Amodei will be joined by Anthropic EMEA head Guillaume Princen and startups chief Daniel Delaney for a week of sessions with leading venture funds such as Accel and Lightspeed to engage Indian developers and startups.
India has rapidly become a key market for Anthropic, accounting for the second-highest share of traffic to Claude’s platform worldwide. The company’s app saw a 48% increase in downloads and a 572% surge in consumer spending in India over the past year, underscoring growing demand for generative AI tools across the country’s one-billion-strong internet population.
