Apple Prepares AI Chatbot Overhaul of Siri for Future iOS Release

Apple is preparing a major overhaul of Siri that would reposition the assistant as a full AI chatbot, according to reporting by Mark Gurman. The redesigned Siri, internally codenamed Campos, is expected to support both voice and text interactions and could be unveiled as a centerpiece of Apple’s Worldwide Developers Conference in June, ahead of integration into iOS 27.

The shift marks a change from earlier public positions taken by Apple’s senior vice president of software engineering Craig Federighi, reflecting mounting competitive pressure from AI chatbot leaders. Apple has faced delays in rolling out more advanced Siri capabilities and recently confirmed a partnership with Google Gemini after evaluating technologies from OpenAI and Anthropic. The move comes as OpenAI advances plans to enter the hardware market with former Apple design chief Jony Ive.
