OpenAI Accelerates Global and Enterprise Strategy With India Engagement and Leadership Shift

OpenAI is intensifying its global expansion and enterprise focus as chief executive Sam Altman prepares for a planned visit to India in mid-February, coinciding with the India AI Impact Summit 2026 in New Delhi. While Altman is not listed as a formal speaker, OpenAI is expected to host closed-door meetings and a private industry event during summit week, engaging investors, enterprise customers, and policymakers. The visit comes as India emerges as one of OpenAI’s largest user markets for ChatGPT and a strategic priority for enterprise adoption, regulatory engagement, and potential future infrastructure expansion amid growing competition from rivals including Google and Anthropic.

Separately, OpenAI has reorganized its leadership to strengthen enterprise sales, appointing Barret Zoph to lead global efforts to sell AI to business customers. Zoph, a former OpenAI vice president who recently returned after a stint at Thinking Machine Labs, takes on the role as enterprise AI adoption becomes a central priority for 2026. The move follows growing pressure from competitors gaining ground in enterprise large language model usage. OpenAI has also expanded partnerships, including a multi-year deal with ServiceNow, underscoring its push to regain momentum in the rapidly evolving enterprise AI market.
