OpenAI released GPT-5.5 on Thursday, describing it as its most capable and intuitive model to date. Co-founder and president Greg Brockman said the model represented a meaningful step toward more agentic computing and brought the company closer to its vision of a “super app” — a unified platform combining ChatGPT, Codex, and an AI browser for enterprise and consumer use.
Chief scientist Jakub Pachocki said significant near-term improvements should be expected, while chief research officer Mark Chen highlighted the model’s gains in scientific research workflows, including potential applications in drug discovery.
GPT-5.5 outperforms rivals including Google’s Gemini 3.1 Pro and Anthropic’s Claude Opus 4.5 across OpenAI’s benchmarks. It is now available to Plus, Pro, Business, and Enterprise users, with GPT-5.5 Pro restricted to higher-tier subscribers.
