AIUC Raises $40M to Build Safety Certification Standard for AI Agents

Artificial Intelligence Underwriting Company (AIUC) has closed a $40 million Series A led by Ribbit Capital, with participation from First Harmonic, bringing its total funding to $55 million following a earlier $15 million seed round. The startup, founded by Rune Kvist and Rajiv Dattani, has built a third-party audit and certification system for AI agents, modeled on the cybersecurity standard SOC 2.

Kvist, a former early Anthropic employee, explained that as AI models grow more capable, enterprises increasingly hesitate to deploy them not because the technology is insufficiently advanced, but because organizations cannot guarantee agents will honor commitments made to their own customers. Dattani, previously COO of AI safety research organization METR, described how AIUC consulted roughly 250 security and risk leaders to shape its testing standard, AIUC-1.

The company runs agents through around 5,000 tests covering jailbreaks, hallucinations and data leaks, producing detailed reports on where systems perform reliably. AI tools assist with running and analyzing tests, though humans verify final results, according to Kvist.

Customers reportedly include Cursor, Lovable, Harvey and ElevenLabs. The approach echoes recent calls from Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei for independent third-party evaluators to oversee frontier AI safety.
