Anthropic Files for IPO, Revenue Surges to $16.3B

Insider Brief

  • Anthropic filed for an IPO and applied to list on Nasdaq under the ticker ANT, reporting $16.3 billion in first-half 2026 revenue but leaving the share count, price range and expected proceeds undisclosed.
  • The company reported a $693 million first-half operating loss and an $80.75 billion net loss, including a $72.4 billion fair-value expense tied largely to convertible notes as its valuation increased.
  • Anthropic had more than 11,900 customers generating at least $100,000 in trailing 12-month revenue as of Sept. 30 and said compute remains its largest operating cost as it expands infrastructure across AWS Trainium, Google TPUs, Nvidia GPUs and AMD GPUs.

Anthropic filed for an initial public offering Monday, giving investors their first detailed look at the finances behind Claude and revealing a business that generated $16.3 billion in revenue during the first half of 2026.

According to its S-1 filing with the Securities and Exchange Commission, Anthropic applied to list its Class A shares on the Nasdaq Global Select Market under the ticker ANT. The company has not yet disclosed the number of shares it plans to sell, an expected price range or how much it expects to raise, while existing shareholders also plan to sell shares in the offering.

Revenue

Revenue reached $16.29 billion during the six months ended June 30, up from $1.16 billion during the same period a year earlier. Anthropic reported a $693 million operating loss for the period, compared with a $2.14 billion operating loss a year earlier.

The company turned an operating profit in the second quarter, reporting $11.6 billion in revenue and about $1 billion in operating income. Anthropic said revenue growth outpaced the growth in its operating expenses as customer usage increased and compute costs became a smaller share of revenue.

Losses

Anthropic reported a net loss of $80.75 billion for the first half, including a $72.4 billion expense from changes in the fair value of convertible notes, derivative liabilities and other securities. The filing indicated those changes were primarily driven by increases in the value of outstanding convertible notes as Anthropic’s enterprise valuation rose.

Enterprise Customers Source of Growth

As of Sept. 30, Anthropic had more than 11,900 customers generating at least $100,000 in trailing 12-month revenue, more than 1,900 generating at least $1 million and about 250 generating at least $10 million.

More than half of the Fortune 500 were customers generating at least $100,000 in trailing 12-month revenue as of Sept. 30, according to the filing. Anthropic’s top five customers accounted for about 25% of revenue during the first nine months of 2026, while no single customer represented more than 10%.

Compute Remains Largest Cost

Compute remains Anthropic’s largest operating cost. The company trains and runs Claude across AWS Trainium, Google TPUs, Nvidia GPUs and AMD GPUs and said it intends to use IPO proceeds for purposes including working capital, operating expenses, compute and infrastructure, and hiring.

Anthropic said it had raised an aggregate $141.1 billion in capital as of June 30 and held $112.4 billion in cash and $19.3 billion in short-term investments. It also had about $6.2 billion in outstanding convertible notes issued to Amazon.

Company’s Structure

The IPO will preserve an unusual governance structure built around Anthropic’s status as a Delaware public benefit corporation. Its Long-Term Benefit Trust generally has the power to elect a majority of the board, while a Founder LLC whose initial members are Anthropic’s seven co-founders will hold a special Class F share carrying 50.1% of the voting power on matters submitted to stockholders generally. Class A shares sold to the public carry one vote each.

Anthropic said the structure is intended to balance shareholder interests with the interests of people affected by the company and its stated purpose of developing advanced AI for the long-term benefit of humanity. Anthropic will be classified as a controlled company under Nasdaq rules.
