Aformic has raised $6.95 million in seed funding to expand deployments of its autonomous industrial robots, as the company reports more than $34 million in purchase orders and hundreds of machines operating in factories and warehouses worldwide.
According to the South Carolina startup, the round was led by Veteran Ventures Capital, with participation from ff Venture Capital, Mana Ventures, Red Beard Ventures, Alamo Angels and strategic angel investors. The funding will support Aformic’s expansion in the United States and international markets, including hiring additional engineering and sales staff.
Aformic develops and maintains autonomous robots that handle internal logistics jobs such as moving materials and delivering parts to production lines. Its products include autonomous mobile robots with different payload capacities, self-driving forklifts and Qursor, a software platform for managing robotic operations and collecting factory data.
Aformic said it has hundreds of robots operating in manufacturing facilities across the automotive, aerospace and defense, energy, heavy industry and consumer goods sectors. Customers include Toyota, NGK, Oshkosh Defense, Hitachi, First Solar, Kelvion, 3M, Hyundai Mobis and Vesuvius.
According to the company, its robots have traveled more than 186,000 miles in customer facilities over the past 12 months and complete an average of more than 5,000 production or delivery orders daily.
Expanding Robotics Applications
The company also plans to continue developing its Qursor software platform and robotic hardware for additional industrial uses. One area of development involves extending the company’s technology beyond its existing factory and warehouse operations to autonomous robotics for AI data center construction and maintenance.
Aformic is going after the needs of manufacturers facing labor shortages and pressure to increase production capacity. The company cited research from Deloitte and The Manufacturing Institute projecting that 1.9 million U.S. manufacturing jobs could go unfilled by 2033.
“AFORMIC is addressing one of the most important challenges in the physical economy: helping critical industries scale production when labor, logistics, and manufacturing capacity are under pressure,” noted Derren Burrell, founder and managing partner of Veteran Ventures Capital. “The company has demonstrated strong customer validation with production-ready robotics systems and meaningful traction with global industrial customers.”
