Perplexity Launches Comet: AI-Powered Web Browser to Challenge Google’s Search Dominance

Perplexity has officially launched Comet, its first AI-native web browser, signaling a major step in the company’s effort to disrupt traditional search. Initially available to users on its $200-per-month Max plan and select waitlist members, Comet integrates Perplexity’s AI search engine by default and introduces Comet Assistant, an embedded AI agent designed to automate tasks across the web.

Built to streamline workflows, the assistant can summarize content, manage tabs, and interpret web pages in real time. Though powerful for basic tasks, its performance falters on more complex requests, and requires significant access permissions.

With over 780 million monthly queries and fast-growing user engagement, Perplexity hopes Comet can convert search users into browser loyalists in an increasingly competitive AI browser market.
