Google Deepens Gemini AI Integration Across Workspace and Introduces User Controls for AI Search in Photos

Google has announced a broad expansion of Gemini-powered artificial intelligence capabilities across its core productivity products, including Docs, Sheets, Slides, and Drive, while also introducing new controls allowing users to limit AI features in Google Photos.

The company said the new Gemini tools are designed to turn Workspace applications into AI-powered collaborators capable of generating and organizing content directly within documents, spreadsheets, and presentations. A new “Help me create” feature in Docs allows users to describe a document they want to produce, after which Gemini gathers relevant information from Gmail, Chat, and Drive to generate a structured first draft. Additional tools can refine text, improve clarity, unify writing style across multiple contributors, and replicate formatting from other documents.

In Sheets, Gemini can now generate fully formatted spreadsheets using data from emails, files, and online sources. The system can also populate tables automatically, summarize information, categorize datasets, and retrieve real-time data from the web.

Slides will allow users to generate editable presentation slides based on prompts and contextual information from their files. Meanwhile, Drive search now includes AI-generated summaries that surface relevant insights across stored documents.

Alongside the rollout, Google said it will give users greater control over AI features in Google Photos. A new toggle will allow users to switch between the AI-powered Ask Photos search tool and the classic search experience after feedback that some queries were slower or less accurate. According to Shimrit Ben-Yair, lead for Google Photos, the change reflects user demand for greater control over AI-driven search results.
