Zendesk has announced the acquisition of Forethought, an artificial intelligence company focused on automating customer service interactions, in a deal expected to close by the end of March. Financial terms were not disclosed.
Forethought develops AI systems that help businesses manage customer support through automated responses, self-improving agents, and workflow automation. The company has supported more than one billion monthly customer interactions and counts major clients including Upwork, Grammarly, Airtable, and Datadog. Founded years before the current surge in generative AI, Forethought first gained industry attention after winning the TechCrunch Startup Battlefield competition in 2018.
Deon Nicholas, co-founder and chairman of Forethought, described the acquisition as a major milestone for the company’s vision of AI-driven customer experience. Zendesk said it plans to integrate Forethought’s technology into its own AI platforms, including tools for voice automation, specialized agents, and more autonomous customer service capabilities, accelerating the company’s AI product roadmap.
