Agility Robotics opened a new Fremont, Calif., facility to expand development of the AI software that powers Digit, its humanoid robot for enterprise work.

According to the company. the 60,000-square-foot site will serve as Agility’s software and capabilities hub. Engineering teams will use the facility to train, test and improve the AI systems that help Digit learn new skills and perform more complex tasks.

The Fremont location complements Agility’s RoboFab manufacturing operations in Salem, Ore. It also gives the company a Silicon Valley base for physical AI development as it works to expand Digit’s capabilities for warehouse and manufacturing customers.

“Being in the heart of Silicon Valley brings us into one of the world’s leading AI talent and innovation ecosystems, allowing us to develop new capabilities for Digit faster and put them to work for customers immediately,” CEO Peggy Johnson said in the announcement. “Being one of the only companies operationally deploying humanoids in real enterprise environments, our Fremont facility will play a critical role in driving innovation that anticipates and delivers on the capabilities our customers need.”

Agility said it plans to hire nearly 200 people across AI and machine-learning software engineering, AI and machine learning, and field operations.

Digit is already deployed with customers including Schaeffler, GXO, Toyota Motor Manufacturing Canada and Mercado Libre. Agility said it has secured more than $300 million in multi-year orders for Digit v5, subject to certain contractual milestones, and has a pipeline of more than 30 potential customers.

The company said the Fremont facility is intended to help meet that demand by accelerating development of AI capabilities tied to safety, productivity and real-world deployment. The focus is on repetitive and physically demanding tasks in warehouses and manufacturing facilities, where Digit is designed to work alongside people.

The expansion comes as Agility prepares for a planned public listing through a business combination with Churchill Capital Corp XI. If completed, Agility said it would become the first publicly listed U.S. pure-play humanoid robotics company.
