Lumen CEO on Building the Future of AI with Google Cloud

Yesterday, AI Insider reported on Lumen Technologies partnership with Google Cloud to enhance its operations and deliver real-time network insights through a new AI-powered “Digital Twin” platform. In line with this, CEO Kate Johnson discussed her company’s pivotal role in AI-driven infrastructure, with recent partnerships underscoring the company’s position in the tech landscape. Lumen’s collaboration with Google Cloud, Johnson explained, is part of a larger strategy to shape a next-generation network that can handle the demands of AI.

“Big tech is choosing Lumen to build out the trusted network for AI,” Johnson stated. “They’re asking us to expand the internet at large to support growth in AI,” she added, underlining the unique value Lumen brings to such a dynamic and data-intensive industry. The digital ecosystem is evolving, and Johnson believes that current networks aren’t equipped for the future. “Networks of yesterday, they just aren’t fast enough, big enough, or smart enough. Lumen is fixing all of that.”

The recent partnership with Google Cloud is only one part of Lumen’s robust growth. Johnson revealed that Lumen has secured around $8.5 billion in deals over the past two quarters, building partnerships across all major cloud providers. These deals enable Lumen to continue its ambitious investments in AI infrastructure.

“We’re redefining what networking looks like, not just for hyper-scalers, but for more enterprises as well,” she shared. Johnson noted that enterprises are eager for an easy, quick, and secure network solution that Lumen is positioned to deliver.

Looking ahead, Johnson described a three-phase journey for AI adoption, starting with big tech companies developing AI models, followed by enterprise adoption, and ultimately reaching a stage “when AI starts talking to AI, and data volume will go up parabolically.”

Lumen’s partnerships and vision signal that they’re ready to lead in this AI revolution. As Johnson concluded: “It’s a race for bandwidth, and they’re coming to Lumen to help expand the next generation of connectivity.”
