Y Combinator Startup Argil Raises €4.9M with Support from YouTuber Kwebblekop to Power AI Video Clones

Argil, a video engine tailored for the creator economy, has raised a combined €4.9M in pre-seed and seed funding as it exits the Y Combinator incubator. The company’s latest funding round of €3.9M was led by EQT Ventures, with contributions from YouTuber Kwebblekop, who boasts over 15 million subscribers, and Charles Gorintin, co-founder and CTO of Alan and co-founding advisor of Mistral AI. This follows a €1M pre-seed round in 2023 backed by Seedcamp and Axeleo.

Under the leadership of Laodis Menard, Argil’s platform transforms video, text, and audio content into AI-generated, human-like multilingual avatars in a matter of minutes. The service, starting at $1 per minute of video, aims to address the high costs and time constraints that brands and creators face in producing multiple videos to engage audiences.

Argil’s platform includes features such as AI-assisted pre-editing tools that reduce the effort required to produce social media-ready content. Users can create avatars that speak any language and access a library of additional virtual avatars. The platform also offers templates to turn text-based or audio content — like articles or podcasts — into visually engaging videos.

Unlike traditional AI avatar solutions, which often feature robotic and less engaging avatars primarily used for enterprise training, Argil provides a more relatable and personalized experience. The platform allows creators to incorporate body language, expressions, B-roll, captions, AI images, and translations, resulting in warmer, more interactive content.

Argil’s technology has attracted a diverse client base, including prominent YouTubers with millions of followers. The platform is also being utilized by the estates of late stars like Audrey Hepburn, enabling the creation of new content to engage modern audiences with iconic figures.

Laodis Menard, Argil’s CEO and co-founder, shared his motivation for starting the company, stating that his experience in product marketing for a French unicorn highlighted the challenges of creating video content.

Menard explained that Argil’s mission is to democratize video production, enabling anyone to create engaging videos using realistic AI avatars.

With its funding and innovative approach, Argil aims to continue redefining video creation for the creator economy, empowering brands and creators to deliver compelling content efficiently and affordably.
