Intel’s New CEO Lip-Bu Tan’s Plan for AI and Manufacturing Revival

Intel is set for a major transformation as Lip-Bu Tan takes over as CEO, bringing a decisive strategy shift focused on AI innovation and manufacturing efficiency. Sources familiar with Tan’s plans revealed that he is prioritizing restructuring Intel’s AI roadmap, overhauling its manufacturing processes, and streamlining operations to regain a competitive edge in the semiconductor market.

Intel shares jumped over 7% following reports of Tan’s imminent leadership changes. A major focus will be Intel Foundry, the company’s contract chip manufacturing arm, which supplies Nvidia, Microsoft, and Amazon. Tan aims to win additional high-profile customers while improving production efficiency. His approach follows months of internal assessments, where he identified a slow decision-making culture and an overextended workforce as key barriers to Intel’s recovery.

A crucial test for Tan’s leadership will be the rollout of Intel’s advanced Panther Lake AI chips, which rely on Intel’s next-generation 18A process technology. While industry analysts suggest Intel’s AI competitiveness could take until 2027 to materialize, Tan’s immediate focus will be to enhance chip production output, attract major AI clients, and restore Intel’s foundry reputation.
