Goldman Sachs Pilots AI Coding Agent Devin to Augment Developer Workforce

Goldman Sachs has begun deploying Devin, the AI software engineer developed by Cognition, as a digital team member within its tech division. Chief Information Officer Marco Argenti confirmed the move to CNBC, stating that the bank will introduce hundreds — and eventually thousands — of Devin instances to support its 12,000-strong human developer workforce.

Devin, which gained viral attention after its launch, is now in version 2.1 and optimized for navigating complex codebases. While it has faced scrutiny over performance on advanced tasks, Cognition says the agent thrives when given broad contextual input.

Goldman, known for its early adoption of developer copilots, views Devin not as a replacement, but as part of a supervised, hybrid AI-human collaboration model aimed at boosting productivity.
