Vellum Announces $20M Series A to Bring Rigor, Speed and Reliability to Enterprise AI Development

Insider Brief

  • Vellum has raised $20 million in Series A funding to expand its enterprise AI development platform, which helps companies build, test, and deploy reliable generative AI systems.
  • The platform integrates workflow orchestration, testing, deployment, and monitoring to move AI projects from prototype to production, with customers including Drata, Swisscom, and Headspace.
  • Backed by Leaders Fund and others, Vellum aims to scale globally and become the foundational infrastructure for mission-critical AI development across regulated industries.

PRESS RELEASE — Vellum, the leading enterprise development platform for building, testing and deploying mission-critical AI products, announced it has raised $20 million in Series A funding. The round was led by Leaders Fund, with participation from Socii Capital and returning investors Y Combinator, Rebel Fund, Pioneer Fund and Eastlink Capital.

The funding reflects growing demand from enterprises and strong customer traction, enabling Vellum to accelerate product development and expand into new verticals and global markets. The partnership with Leaders Fund, recognized for its deep expertise in enterprise go-to-market, will be instrumental in bringing Vellum’s AI development platform to more organizations worldwide.

“Generative AI has captured the imagination of nearly every industry, but turning that potential into reliable, production-ready systems remains a massive challenge,” said Akash Sharma, co-founder and CEO at Vellum. “For many teams, it still feels like guesswork. Vellum changes that. We provide the infrastructure that brings rigor, predictability and repeatability to AI development, so teams can build with confidence and scale with clarity.”

Vellum Lays the Foundation for Reliable, Scalable GenAI

Today’s announcement reinforces Vellum’s position as the emerging standard for enterprise AI development. In a landscape where 54% of companies lack a comprehensive AI strategy1 and 56% report immature data systems, moving from prototype to production remains a major hurdle. Vellum is uniquely positioned to help large organizations turn experimental AI efforts into scalable, measurable business outcomes. As part of the Series A announcement, the Vellum platform is officially GA and available for teams ready to move beyond prototyping.

The platform equips cross-functional teams with a centralized control panel to orchestrate end-to-end AI workflows by connecting models, tools and business data in one place to streamline the path to production. By coupling workflow orchestration, evaluations and testing, deployment and monitoring in one platform, Vellum enables organizations to build complex AI systems that output reliable results. Vellum has become an essential infrastructure layer for companies in highly regulated industries, where security, compliance and reliability are non-negotiable.

“The rise of LLMs and AI has changed how software is built, but the need for reliability and structure remains the same,” said Gideon Hayden, co-founder and Managing Partner at Leaders Fund. “Most large organizations developing AI applications are stuck in the prototype phase, struggling to make AI systems reliable, repeatable and ready for production. Vellum’s test-driven development platform meets the moment. The team has quickly earned the trust of leading enterprise customers by solving the core challenges that slow AI development: maintaining reliability, accelerating iteration and enabling collaboration. Vellum is setting a new standard for how AI gets built, and we’re proud to support that vision.”

Vellum helps teams overcome the core challenges of getting AI out of prototyping and into the hands of users. The platform enables:

  • AI workflow definition: A visual UI builder and SDK let teams map, test and refine AI logic. Engineers and non-technical experts can collaborate side by side.
  • End-to-end evaluation: A robust testing suite catches failures and edge cases before they reach production.
  • Safe deployments: Push updates and publish new versions without risky redeploys. Vellum enables precise version control, even in highly complex environments.
  • Live monitoring and continuous improvement: Real-time observability reveals how systems behave in the real world, with live feedback loops that inform testing directly.

Leading Companies Trust Vellum as the Backbone of their AI Stack

Vellum is already delivering impact across a wide range of industries. Companies like Drata, Swisscom, Redfin and Headspace use the platform to power AI initiatives — from automating customer support to extracting data and building content generation agents. With explainable workflows and shared controls, Vellum makes it easy for engineers and domain experts to collaborate, so teams can build smarter, more reliable AI systems together.

Drata, the leading security and compliance automation provider, relies on Vellum to power secure, scalable AI workflows across more than 7,000 customer environments. With built-in evaluation, full observability and strict data isolation, Vellum enables Drata to move faster, iterate with confidence and deliver enterprise-grade AI automation without compromising accuracy or compliance.

“Vellum has been a force multiplier for our AI efforts; their test-driven approach helps us catch regressions early and iterate quickly,” said Lior Solomon, VP of Engineering at Drata. “In a space where accuracy and security assurance are critical, Vellum gives us the infrastructure to move fast without compromising performance and deliver AI-powered features that our customers can trust.”

Investment Accelerates Global Expansion

Vellum plans to use the Series A funding to continue building its best-in-class platform for AI development and expand its go-to-market presence globally. The partnership with Leaders Fund, known for its expertise in go-to-market strategies, will be instrumental in bringing Vellum’s proven AI development standard to more organizations worldwide.
