Microsoft announced that it is expanding Copilot with the integration of Anthropic’s Claude models, marking a shift in its AI strategy beyond exclusive reliance on OpenAI. Starting this week, Copilot business users can access Claude Opus 4.1 for advanced reasoning, coding, and architectural planning, as well as Claude Sonnet 4 for tasks such as data processing, development workflows, and content generation.
The move follows Microsoft’s recent agreement to bring Anthropic AI into Office 365 applications, including Word, Excel, and Outlook. By offering enterprises the option to choose between OpenAI and Anthropic models, Microsoft is positioning Copilot as a more versatile platform for building custom AI tools and agents across business functions.
