Spotify Partners with Major Labels to Develop Responsible AI Music Tools

Spotify has announced new partnerships with Sony Music, Universal Music Group, Warner Music Group, and Merlin to develop AI-powered products that prioritize fair compensation and give artists and songwriters control over how their work interacts with artificial intelligence. The initiative focuses on building “responsible AI” technologies that respect copyright while allowing creators to opt in or out of AI use.

The move follows Spotify’s recent overhaul of its AI content policies, including stricter rules on mass AI uploads and a new labeling framework using DDEX standards. The company also confirmed the establishment of a dedicated AI research lab to create artist-centered generative tools, reinforcing its stance that musicians’ rights and consent remain central to the future of AI in music.
