Brussels Knifes Privacy to Feed the AI Boom

The European Commission is preparing to loosen parts of the EU’s landmark GDPR privacy law to boost artificial intelligence development, according to draft plans obtained by POLITICO. The proposed “digital omnibus” package, due November 19, would allow AI firms greater leeway to process sensitive data and ease cookie consent rules, igniting backlash from privacy advocates and governments warning it could undermine fundamental rights.
