Nearly three years after OpenAI introduced ChatGPT on November 30, 2022, the conversational AI system continues to exert sweeping influence across business, technology, geopolitics, and financial markets. What began as an “innocuous” chat interface has become one of the world’s most widely used AI products, maintaining the top position on Apple’s free app charts and inspiring an unprecedented wave of generative AI development.

Commentators now describe ChatGPT as a force reshaping global power structures and economic expectations, with concerns emerging about workforce instability and the pace of technological disruption. Analysts note that younger workers face uncertainty about career paths, while experienced professionals are warned that their established skills may rapidly lose relevance.

Financial markets have also been transformed. Bloomberg analysis shows that Nvidia has surged 979% since ChatGPT’s debut, while the seven largest companies on the S&P 500 — all heavily invested in AI — now represent 35% of the index’s weighting. Industry leaders increasingly acknowledge the possibility of an AI-driven market bubble, even as they predict that the technology will ultimately create massive long-term economic value.
