Google Releases Low-Cost AI Plus Subscription in India to Strengthen Competitive Position Against ChatGPT Go

Google has introduced its AI Plus subscription in India, a low-cost offering aimed at expanding access to its Gemini AI ecosystem and countering rival budget plans such as OpenAI’s ChatGPT Go. The new tier is priced at ₹199 ($2.21) per month for the first six months, rising to ₹399 ($4.44) thereafter, marking a significant reduction from Google’s previous entry-level AI Pro plan, which cost ₹1,950 per month.

AI Plus provides higher usage limits for Gemini 3 Pro and Nano Banana Pro, enables video generation in the Gemini and Flow apps, expands research capabilities in NotebookLM, and includes 200GB of shared cloud storage across Google Photos, Drive, and Gmail. Subscribers can also extend access to five additional family members.

The launch reflects intensifying competition in India, where OpenAI, Perplexity, and Google have been partnering with major telecom operators and offering extended free trials to attract the country’s vast and rapidly growing AI user base.
