Catalan edtech startup Mathew has closed a €1.2 million seed round backed by returning investor Encomenda and new backer Decelera, to accelerate international expansion with a focus on Mexico and Latin America.
CEO Alan Fusté said the funding reflects sustained growth since the company’s 2023 launch, with revenue having tripled in its second year and projections pointing to a further tripling in 2026. Decelera CEO Marcos Martín and Encomenda GP Javier Darriba both highlighted AI’s growing role in modernising teaching and assessment systems as central to their investment thesis.
The Sant Cugat del Vallès-based company has already partnered with Ceneval, Latin America’s leading standardised testing body, and works with over 100 institutions in Spain. Its AI platform is designed to streamline assessment, academic management, and personalised learning across the educational ecosystem.
