AethexAI, a voice AI startup targeting Africa and the Middle East, has closed a $3 million pre-seed round led by 4DX Ventures, with Enza Capital, Dorm Room Fund, Mojo Ventures, and Stanford GSB 26 Fund also participating.
Founded by Mariama Diallo and Ayooluwa Odemuyiwa, the company built its own small-model AI stack, the Kora series, ranging from 300 million to 1.7 billion parameters, to handle the latency constraints and localized dialects of the region. The platform is now processing over 17,000 calls daily.
Odemuyiwa argued that existing orchestration tools hosted outside the region produced unacceptable latency, making a proprietary low-footprint architecture essential. The company is currently focused on debt collection, customer activation, and KYC verification use cases.
