Google is facing a significant brain drain as leading AI researchers depart for rivals. Jonas Adler and Alexander Pritzel, both key contributors to the development of Google’s Gemini model, are joining Anthropic, according to reports.
The departures follow a string of high-profile exits. Last week, renowned AI researcher Noam Shazeer, a Google veteran of over two decades, announced he was leaving for OpenAI. Days later, John Jumper, a Google DeepMind director and 2024 Nobel Prize in Chemistry laureate recognised for his work on the AlphaFold protein-structure prediction system, also confirmed a move to Anthropic.
With both Anthropic and OpenAI preparing for public listings, analysts suggest the talent exodus may accelerate, as the prospect of pre-IPO equity makes competing offers increasingly compelling for top-tier AI researchers.
