AI Startup Recursive Superintelligence Signs $410M Compute Deal With AWS

Recursive Superintelligence, an AI company focused on building self-improving systems, has signed a $410 million multiyear compute deal with Amazon Web Services. The company, which emerged from stealth in May with $650 million in funding, said the agreement represents the majority of its fundraising to date and will support its compute-intensive approach to AI development.

Founder and CEO Richard Socher said he expects the deal to be among the smallest compute agreements the company signs in the coming years, noting that Recursive’s strategy prioritizes computing power over traditional headcount as it works to automate much of its own product development. Socher described the company’s focus as being on “agent count” rather than staff size.

Unlike many major AI labs’ arrangements with cloud providers, the AWS deal does not include an investment component. Jason Bennett, AWS’s VP for startups and venture capital, said the partnership includes plans to co-develop infrastructure tailored to companies pursuing recursive self-improvement, an approach some in the AI industry view as a potential inflection point for accelerating progress, though its practical requirements remain widely debated.

Socher said Recursive aims to translate its research into usable products quickly, with early examples expected as soon as October.
