Midjourney, the AI lab known for its image and video generation tools, has acquired social astrology app Co-Star, according to Bloomberg. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.
Co-Star, which has approximately 4.3 million monthly active users, allows people to generate astrological birth charts and share them with friends, using a combination of AI and human writers to produce horoscopes and compatibility assessments. The acquisition brings Co-Star’s team of roughly two dozen employees into Midjourney.
The deal reflects Midjourney’s broadening ambitions beyond its core product, which operates primarily through Discord rather than a standalone app. The company has also been developing ventures in areas such as medical applications and wellness. Given Co-Star’s experience building consumer-facing apps, the acquisition could help Midjourney move toward launching its own standalone application, an area where it has previously lacked a presence.
