XPeng’s robotics business has raised more than $900 million in its first external funding round, valuing the unit at more than $6.3 billion as the Chinese electric-vehicle maker prepares its Iron humanoid robot for mass production.
IDG Capital led the round, with participation from Gaorong Ventures and strategic investments from Tencent and Alibaba, according to XPeng. The company said the financing represents the largest single-round private capital raise to date in China’s embodied AI industry.
XPeng plans to use the funding for robotics hardware and software research, training and improving its physical AI models, generating data, building mass-production facilities and expanding commercially outside China.
The company indicated it expects its next-generation Iron humanoid to enter mass production by the end of 2026. Initial deployments are planned for XPeng stores and campuses, followed by a wider commercial launch and deliveries in China and overseas markets in 2027.
“Over the past 12 years, XPENG has remained committed to full-stack in-house R&D, building a solid technological foundation for the physical AI era — across our physical world foundation model, Turing AI chips, and AI infrastructure,” XPeng chairman and CEO He Xiaopeng said in the announcement. “This has enabled us to pioneer a new phase of mass production and commercial deployment for advanced humanoid robots.”
Iron is being developed as a general-purpose humanoid platform that combines a human-like body with AI systems intended to let the robot operate across different tasks and environments. XPeng said it has developed the robot’s hardware and software internally, including its physical structure, actuators, chips, controllers, motion systems, hands and AI controls.

AI and Computing

- Local processing: Intended to provide low-latency inference while keeping more data processing on the robot.
XPeng said IRON’s human-like design is intended to help the robot work in environments and perform activities originally designed for people. As more robots enter production and deployment, the company plans to use the resulting real-world data to improve its physical AI models and expand the range of tasks IRON can perform.
XPeng is drawing on its electric-vehicle development and manufacturing operations as it builds the robotics business, including its experience producing hardware at larger volumes.
Following completion of the funding round, XPeng will retain controlling ownership of the robotics business and continue consolidating the unit into its financial statements, according to the company. The financing will also support longer-term employee incentive programs for senior executives and other key personnel.
