Google is expanding its AI footprint with two announcements this week: a new AI image-creation tool for Workspace and a set of Gemini-powered accessibility updates for Android.
The company introduced Google Pics, an image-creation and editing tool powered by its Nano Banana model, which will roll out to Workspace business customers and Google AI Pro and Ultra subscribers over the coming weeks. Unlike design platforms such as Canva, Google Pics is built around AI prompting rather than manual design or artist-published templates, and includes features for object isolation, text editing within images, and collaborative multi-generation selection. It launches first in Docs and Slides before expanding to Drive.
Separately, Google detailed five new Android updates centered on accessibility and personalization. “Motion Assist” uses a moving screen overlay to reduce motion sickness in vehicles, while “Guided Vision” pairs the camera with Gemini to help blind and low-vision users read labels, navigate menus, and identify objects, offering voice guidance to reposition the phone. Gemini is also gaining a “remembered items” feature within Find Hub, letting users verbally log where belongings are stored. Additional updates bring Google Keep integration and expanded personalization options to Google Messages.
