Santander has announced an $800 million investment plan for its Chilean operations over the next three years, with a strong emphasis on integrating data and artificial intelligence to streamline internal processes and improve customer responsiveness. Andrés Trautmann, CEO and country head of Santander Chile, unveiled the plan during ChileDay Madrid 2026, detailing funding of roughly $550 million from Banco Santander Chile and $250 million from the Santander Group.
The capital will support the bank’s recent acquisition of a life annuity business, a broad technology transformation, and construction of Campus Santander, its new corporate headquarters. The digital push is paired with continued expansion of WorkCafé branches, which combine digital tools with in-person banking services, alongside modernization of the physical branch network.
Ana Botín, Executive Chair of Banco Santander, said Chile’s institutional strengths and openness position it well to translate investment into growth, with technology and AI playing a central role in driving productivity.
Banco Santander Chile currently employs 8,315 people across 224 branches and holds strong credit ratings, including A2 from Moody’s and A- from Standard & Poor’s. As of June 2026, the bank reported total assets of $76.3 billion and deposits of $35.2 billion. The investment reflects intensifying competition for capital across Latin America, as Santander bets that combining AI-driven efficiency with physical branch presence will strengthen its position in the region.
