London-based Basecamp Research has raised an oversubscribed $140 million Series C led by S32, with participation from NVIDIA, Menlo Ventures’ Anthology Fund, NATO Innovation Fund, The Rockefeller Foundation, True Ventures and others. The funding will train a new generation of its EDEN biological foundation models and move a pipeline of AI-designed medicines toward clinical development.
EDEN is trained on the Trillion Gene Atlas, which the company describes as the world’s largest proprietary biological AI training dataset, built with partners including NVIDIA, Anthropic, PacBio and Ultima Genomics from data gathered in more than 30 countries. Rather than serving a single task, the models aim to understand how DNA works across all life and can generate therapeutic candidates directly from disease information, an approach demonstrated through a collaboration with Anthropic on Claude Science.
The first application is in vivo cell therapy, pairing EDEN’s ability to design long, complex DNA sequences with large serine recombinases that integrate them into the genome. Co-founder and CEO Glen Gowers said the future of medicine lies in reprogramming the body to repair itself. Andy Conrad, S32 General Partner and former Verily CEO, joins the board, while Roche Vice-Chairman André Hoffmann, also an investor, called AI-designed therapeutics the next transformation in biotechnology. Former Biogen executive Richard Pearce has been appointed Chief Business Officer.
