Insider Brief
- Promise Robotics has signed a multi-year agreement with D.R. Horton to use its Factory-as-a-Service platform to support production of more than 1,250 homes, marking its first deal with a major U.S. homebuilder.
- The platform converts existing home designs into a coordinated process spanning AI-generated production plans, robotic manufacturing, factory operations and onsite installation without requiring builders to operate their own automated factories.
- The agreement builds on Promise Robotics’ earlier partnership with Mattamy Homes in Alberta, where its Calgary facility is serving as a production hub and model for future expansion into U.S. markets.
Promise Robotics has signed a multi-year commercial agreement with D.R. Horton that will give the homebuilder access to its Factory-as-a-Service platform to support the manufacturing of more than 1,250 homes.
According to the Canadian homebuilding physical AI startup, the deal makes D.R. Horton the first major U.S. homebuilder to use its production platform as the company expands its manufacturing network in the U.S. The announcement did not disclose the financial terms of the agreement, specific project locations or the timetable for completing those homes.
“Homebuilding has long lacked the production infrastructure needed to scale with the speed, predictability, and efficiency of modern manufacturing,” Promise co-founder and CEO Ramtin Attar said in the announcement. “Physical AI changes that by creating a new production model that can expand capacity within and across markets Our goal is to make that capability accessible to builders across North America and support the industry’s long-term growth.”
Promise Robotics’ Factory-as-a-Service model is designed to let builders use automated production capacity without developing and operating their own factories while helping builders improve construction cycle times, increase production capacity and make output more predictable across communities and markets. The system takes existing home designs and converts them into a coordinated production process spanning robotic manufacturing, factory operations and onsite installation.
Promise Robotics applies AI across the production process by interpreting home designs, generating production plans and robotic instructions, coordinating manufacturing and linking factory work with installation at construction sites. Rather than focusing on a single automated task, the company said its system combines those steps into one production environment.
Promise Robotics said the U.S. is a major market for expansion as homebuilders contend with housing demand, labor shortages, rising costs and pressure to increase output.
“At D.R. Horton, we are always looking for innovations that can help us improve how we build,” added Brad Conlon, Sr. Vice President, Strategic Growth and Innovation at D.R. Horton. “We are continuously focused on improving cycle times, increasing production capacity, and bringing greater consistency and predictability to our operations,”
Promise Robotics last year announced a multi-year partnership with Mattamy Homes’ Alberta division to deploy its Factory-as-a-Service platform across two master-planned communities, supporting production of single-family, semi-detached and multifamily homes. The company said its Calgary facility would serve as a production hub for the work and as a model for future U.S. expansion, giving builders access to automated manufacturing without requiring them to operate their own factories.
