MongoDB CEO Sees AI Driving Explosion in New Applications

Dev Ittycheria, President and CEO of MongoDB, foresees artificial intelligence (AI) catalyzing significant growth in the database and application markets. In a recent interview, Ittycheria explained that with each major technological shift, “the cost is has gone down” while “the number grew exponentially.” This trend has created “a huge base for data,” which Ittycheria believes will fuel “an explosion of new apps.”

The MongoDB chief stressed that while substantial investments have been made in AI infrastructure, “people are still waiting to see the return of those investments.” He predicts these returns will materialize through new applications and services built on top of the AI infrastructure.

Ittycheria highlighted real-world examples of AI applications, including Novo Nordisk’s use of Amazon Bedrock to streamline study report creation, reducing the process “from weeks to minutes.” He also mentioned how AI is being utilized to modernize existing applications, citing an Australian company that used AI to automate code analysis and rebuild a core database on “a much more modern, scaleable, and flexible platform.”

Looking ahead, Ittycheria believes MongoDB is well-positioned to benefit from these trends, stating: “We’re still in the very, very early days” of the AI revolution in software and databases.
