Synthesia Raises $180M Series D to Advance AI Video Creation

London-based AI video platform Synthesia has secured $180 million in a Series D funding round led by New Enterprise Associates (NEA), with participation from GV, MMC Ventures, FirstMark, and new investors such as WiL (World Innovation Lab), Atlassian Ventures, and PSP Growth. The investment values the company at $2.1 billion and brings its total funding to over $330 million.

Founded in 2017 by Victor Riparbelli, Steffen Tjerrild, Prof. Lourdes Agapito, and Prof. Matthias Niessner, Synthesia has become a leader in generative AI, transforming how businesses create and distribute video content. The platform allows users to produce high-quality videos with customizable AI avatars in over 30 languages, significantly reducing production costs and time.

Synthesia plans to use the funding to expand its presence in markets such as Japan, Australia, Europe, and North America, while advancing its AI-powered platform to enable interactive, real-time, and personalized video experiences. CEO Victor Riparbelli believes the investment will allow them to deliver the next generation of AI video experiences, bringing unparalleled engagement and efficiency to over 60,000 customers, including 60% of Fortune 100 companies.

The company also announced the appointment of Peter Hill as Chief Technology Officer. Hill, a former Amazon and AWS executive, brings extensive expertise in driving large-scale technical innovation.
