  • AUTOMA 2025 will bring together global oil and gas leaders on October 13–14 in Amsterdam to showcase smart technologies, promote sustainability, and support gender inclusion in the energy sector.
  • According to McKinsey, women represent just 22% of the oil and gas workforce and only 10–15% of senior leadership roles.
  • Companies like TotalEnergies, Shell, and Fluor are using the Congress to emphasize their commitments to gender equality and inclusive innovation in oil and gas.

The Oil & Gas Automation and Digitalisation Congress (AUTOMA) 2025 convenes industry leaders to present their technological advancements and smart solutions for the oil and gas sector on 13-14 October in Amsterdam, the Netherlands. The Congress gathers key companies such as TotalEnergies, Shell, and Fluor, known for their commitment to innovation and inclusion initiatives, to share their expertise and strategies driving progress in the industry.

The oil and gas industry has long-faced challenges in achieving gender diversity. According to McKinsey, the industry maintains one of the lowest gender inclusion rates, with women comprising only 22%. This underrepresentation is even more pronounced in senior leadership roles, where women’s participation ranges between 10% and 15%.

Leading industry players participating in AUTOMA 2025 are actively promoting gender equality. TotalEnergies, for instance, has committed to achieving 30% female representation in senior management positions by the end of 2025, recognising that “gender equality is key to our success in a globalised world.”

Shell, a long-term participant of the AUTOMA, has made significant strides in gender diversity, with women making up the majority of its Executive Committee for the first time in the company’s history. The company remains committed to further progress, aiming to surpass 40% female representation in senior leadership by 2030.

Moreover, Fluor, a Regional Partner of AUTOMA 2025, emphasises the importance of an inclusive work environment. The company fosters a culture that “embraces inclusion and encourages active communication through listening and learning,” ensuring that every employee feels valued and heard.

“We challenge ourselves to accept the individuality of our colleagues without judgment or prejudice and create a safe environment that promotes the physical, emotional and psychological wellbeing of every employee”- said on the Fluor website.

The Congress also highlights influential women speakers who are stimulating change in the industry:

  • Dr. Susanna Voges, Director of Operations at Voovio, discusses innovative approaches to operator qualification methods.
  • Georgia Stillwell, Director of Client Solutions EMEA at ALICE Technologies, shares insights on applying generative technology to energy projects.
  • Esma Gulten, Co-Founder and CEO at Gizil GmbH, presents their digital twin software, highlighting its impact on operational efficiency and sustainability.
  • Raeda Raqadi, Information Management Lead at Petroleum Development Oman, and Fatma Al Mukhaini, Information Management System Specialist at Petroleum Development Oman, present a speech about data management in the oil and gas industry through AI/ML automation.

Additionally, AUTOMA 2025 fosters discussions on the shift toward low-carbon energy, the optimisation of smart refineries through AI and enhanced efficiency and productivity in upstream operations using asset management and data-driven software and many others.

Today, achieving a sustainable future is a key priority for the oil and gas sector. One way to move toward this goal is by fostering a network built on open-minded collaboration and free from bias.

By bringing together industry leaders and highlighting the contributions of women in oil and gas, AUTOMA 2025 paves the way for innovation and positive change.
