Modular, the AI infrastructure startup founded in 2022 by former Apple and Google engineers, has raised $250 millionin a new funding round led by the U.S. Innovative Technology Fund, with participation from DFJ Growth, GV, General Catalyst, and Greylock. The investment nearly triples the company’s valuation to $1.6 billion.
Modular’s platform enables developers to run AI applications seamlessly across chips from providers such as Nvidia, AMD, Oracle, and Amazon without rewriting code. Positioned as a neutral “Switzerland” software layer, the company aims to counterbalance Nvidia’s CUDA ecosystem, which dominates AI compute. With 130 employees, Modular will use the new capital to scale engineering and expand into the AI training market, building on its current strength in inference.
