OpenAI has signed a landmark $38 billion cloud computing agreement with Amazon, marking one of the largest infrastructure deals in the AI industry. Under the seven-year contract, OpenAI will deploy extensive AWS compute capacity through 2026, with expansion planned into 2027 and beyond.
The partnership comes days after OpenAI’s internal restructuring, which removed prior restrictions tied to Microsoft, allowing the company to engage additional cloud providers. The Amazon deal forms part of OpenAI’s broader $1 trillion, decade-long infrastructure expansion, which includes collaborations with Oracle, SoftBank, and the United Arab Emirates, as well as chipmakers Nvidia, AMD, and Broadcom.
The agreement underscores OpenAI’s drive to scale agentic AI workloads, even as analysts debate the sustainability of escalating global AI investments.
