Amazon Prime Video Introduces AI-Generated “Video Recaps” to Enhance Viewer Catch-Up Experience

Amazon has unveiled a new generative AI feature for Prime Video called “Video Recaps,” offering cinematic, AI-generated summaries to help viewers catch up between seasons. The tool produces recap videos with synchronized narration, dialogue, and music, and begins rolling out in beta for select Prime Video Originals including FalloutTom Clancy’s Jack Ryan, and Upload. The launch builds on last year’s AI-powered X-Ray Recaps, which delivered spoiler-controlled text summaries for episodes and full seasons.

The move comes as streaming platforms increasingly explore AI to improve viewer engagement. YouTube TV leverages algorithmic “Key Plays” to help fans join sports games midstream, while Netflix has incorporated generative AI into production workflows, from visual effects in The Eternaut to de-aging in Happy Gilmore 2. As debate continues across the entertainment industry about AI’s impact on creative labor, Prime Video is positioning its new recap feature as an assistive tool that enriches the viewing experience without altering the shows themselves.
