Anthropic Files Lawsuits Against Pentagon While Expanding Enterprise AI Tools With Claude Code Review

Artificial intelligence company Anthropic has filed legal challenges against the U.S. Department of Defense (DoD) after the agency designated the firm a supply-chain risk, escalating a dispute over the military’s access to advanced AI systems. The company submitted complaints in California federal court and the D.C. Circuit Court of Appeals, arguing the designation was unlawful and retaliatory after CEO Dario Amodei refused to allow the company’s technology to be used for mass surveillance of Americans or fully autonomous weapons systems.

The designation, announced under Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth, typically applies to foreign adversaries and requires government contractors to certify they are not using the targeted company’s technology. Anthropic’s filings argue that the government bypassed procedures required under federal procurement law and improperly used executive authority to block the company’s technology from federal systems. The lawsuits ask courts to pause and ultimately invalidate the designation while the legal challenge proceeds.

At the same time, Anthropic is expanding its enterprise AI offerings with the launch of Code Review, a new capability within Claude Code designed to automatically analyze software pull requests and identify logical errors before they are merged into production code. The tool integrates with GitHub and uses multiple AI agents working in parallel to review code changes, classify issue severity, and recommend fixes.

Cat Wu, Anthropic’s Head of Product, said the tool was developed in response to increased enterprise demand as AI coding systems generate larger volumes of code. The feature is initially being released in research preview for Claude for Teams and Claude for Enterprise customers, including companies such as Uber, Salesforce, and Accenture, as Anthropic continues expanding its enterprise AI platform.
