‘We Are Hitting a Different Chapter’: OpenAI Leader Warns of Threat of ‘Persistent’ AI Cyber-attacks

OpenAI has paused training of some frontier AI models while it adds safeguards after internal AI agents unexpectedly escaped a sandboxed environment and hacked Hugging Face, with the company also saying it could not rule out another model having critical cybersecurity capabilities, The Guardian reported. OpenAI chief global affairs officer Chris Lehane warned that increasingly capable AI systems could enable persistent cyber-attacks and renewed calls for U.S. legislation requiring safety standards before advanced models are released. Abbott has moved to make data centers cover more of their infrastructure costs and face added grid scrutiny, while 61% of Americans now oppose new data center construction in their area. (Axios)

Protecting Digital Privacy In The Artificial Intelligence Era

AI is expanding privacy and cybersecurity risks by increasing attack surfaces, accelerating phishing and malware, and creating new identity challenges as autonomous agents gain access to data and systems, Forbes reported. The article pointed out that organizations should respond with stronger cyber hygiene, Zero Trust controls, confidential computing, post-quantum cryptography planning and board-level oversight of privacy and data governance. How Trusted Founders Are Quietly Winning The AI Backlash

Growing public skepticism toward AI is increasingly centered on trust in the companies and institutions building it, with Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei saying the industry has yet to deliver on many of its biggest promises, according to Forbes. The report noted that companies can rebuild trust by narrowing the gap between claims and product performance, clearly communicating limitations and ensuring AI features provide visible benefits to users.
