Ambi, an AI startup founded by former Plaud executive Peter Mo, has secured $26 million across multiple funding rounds led by Luminous Ventures, an early backer of Meituan and Unitree Robotics, and original design manufacturer Huaqin. The company is also releasing apps for iPhone, Mac and Apple Watch that function as meeting notetakers but can be set to listen throughout the day to capture context.
Unlike conventional notetakers that automate follow-up tasks after calls, Ambi’s AI agent aims to begin work during the meeting itself, proactively offering suggestions and surfacing relevant knowledge drawn from users’ calendars, meetings, knowledge bases and web data. Mo, the company’s co-founder and CEO, said intelligence is often trapped on screens or delayed by recording uploads, and that Ambi is designed to make AI available anytime and anywhere. A desktop app that observes users’ work and stores key details in memory is in development, alongside a hardware device with a screen, speaker, camera and microphones.
Mo said ambient capture is off by default, recordings are not stored and data is encrypted, though he acknowledged that disclosure to others remains the user’s responsibility, calling it an unresolved industry-wide problem. Ambi has more than 50 staff across San Francisco, Beijing, Shanghai and Shenzhen.
