Remix Lets Anyone Build Their Own Game on Desktop, Web or Mobile

Insider Brief

  • Remix launched a desktop app for Windows, Mac and Linux, expanding its AI game-making platform alongside a scavenger hunt with a 1 Bitcoin grand prize.
  • The platform serves about 1.5 million players and creators, lets users build games from text descriptions without coding experience and allows creators to export their code.
  • The scavenger hunt opens Oct. 26, offers a total prize pool exceeding $100,000 and requires players to complete challenges before a final stage opens Nov. 12.

Remix, the game-making platform used by about 1.5 million players and creators, launched its desktop app today for Windows, Mac and Linux. Creators can now build games on the new desktop app, on the Remix website or in the native iOS and Android apps. Anyone can turn a game idea into a full game that can be played in minutes, with no coding experience required. Alongside the launch, Remix will open registration today for a skill-based scavenger hunt with a grand prize of 1 Bitcoin (or cash equivalent).

Remix began on mobile in 2025, where creators have made approximately 100,000 short games. A creator describes the game they want, and Remix’s AI tools write code that instantly brings the creator’s vision to life. Remix then hosts the game and adds leaderboards, achievements and real-time multiplayer. Creators own what they make, so they can export their code and take a game anywhere they like to monetize it. Remix also creates promotional materials that creators can share to promote their games and find players.

The desktop app now gives creators room for bigger ideas alongside the web and mobile apps: longer adventures, deeper puzzles and worlds built for groups of friends.

“For a long time, making a game felt like something you could only do if you worked at a big studio,” said Charlie Blackstock, co-founder and CEO of Remix. “We wanted to change who gets to make games. Some of the most creative builders on Remix are kids who have never written a line of code, playing next to developers with years of experience. Now they can build on a phone, in a browser or on the new desktop app, and make something deep enough that people keep coming back to it, wherever they play.”

To introduce the expanded platform to new players, Remix is launching The Missing Bitcoin. The hunt takes place inside portals built with the same tools every Remix creator uses, so players get a first look at what they could make themselves while they compete. Participants will play across the Remix website and the native iOS and Android apps.

How the scavenger hunt works

The Missing Bitcoin is built from Remix’s ready-made portals with their own characters, skins and movement that players travel between. The first portal, The Standing Tide, opens with registration today at 2:00 p.m. EST. The Nexus portal and the next set of challenges open Nov. 2, and new portals and challenges open every two to three days after that. Players earn coins by finishing daily challenges, and each portal takes a set number of coins to enter.

Challenges include puzzles and riddles, platforming, hidden-object searches, time trials, hazard runs and combat, plus rides, flight, memory and music games. Players might direct light across a set of mirrors, ride a sandworm or track down a secret lava tube on the moon. Each coin marks an achievement, and every coin a player earns goes toward a single hunt balance.

Players who collect 60 coins can pass through the Final Door when it opens Nov. 12 at 2:00 p.m. EST. From there, they climb a mountain to the Summit portal and Skyward Infinity, the hunt’s last portal. The final challenge runs until a winner is determined. The first player to collect all hunt coins wins 1 BTC (or its cash equivalent). If no player collects all the coins, the player with the most coins wins.

The players who finish 2nd through 10th also win prizes. Players can win by bringing friends, too: if a player refers a friend who goes on to win the contest, the referrer wins ½ BTC (or its cash equivalent). The hunt’s total prize pool is more than $100,000.

Contest Schedule:

  • Mon., Oct. 26 at 2:00 p.m. EST: Registration opens; The Standing Tide portal and first challenges open.
  • Mon., Nov. 2 at 2:00 p.m. EST: Next set of portals and challenges open.
  • Every two to three days after Nov. 2: Additional portals and challenges open (times to be announced).
  • Thurs., Nov. 12 at 2:00 p.m. EST: Final Door opens, leading to the Summit portal and Skyward Infinity. The final challenge runs until there is a winner.

Players can start the hunt at remix.gg/g/the-missing-bitcoin. Announcements, including the winner, will be posted at x.com/RemixGG_.

Eligibility requirements and official contest rules for The Missing Bitcoin are available at remix.gg/legal/the-missing-bitcoin.

The Remix desktop app is available for free download at Remix for Windows, Mac and Linux, with no minimum system requirements. The Remix mobile app is free on iOS and Android. Playing, uploading and sharing games on Remix is free. To build a game using Remix’s AI, creation plans start at $5 per month. Creators can also connect an existing subscription from Anthropic, OpenAI or Google. Plan details are available at https://remix.gg/plans.
