Matt Swayne

Editorial Director, AI Insider

Matt serves as Editorial Director at AI Insider and across the Resonance group of publications. With several decades of experience in journalism and science communication, he has worked as a science communicator at an R1 research university for more than 12 years. He is currently a teaching professor at Penn State University, where he also develops courses to improve the media and communications skills of scientists.

At AI Insider, Matt oversees editorial strategy and content production across the AI verticals: generative AI, foundation models, AI infrastructure, machine learning research, capital markets, and national AI policy. His cross-vertical role across Resonance — spanning AI, quantum, and space — gives AI Insider’s coverage a distinctive deep-tech lens, treating AI as one of several converging frontier-technology transitions rather than in isolation.
