MongoDB Launches AI Apps Program, CEO Weighs In

MongoDB, the popular database platform, is launching a new AI applications program to help companies integrate generative AI into their apps and services. In an interview recently, MongoDB President and CEO Dev Ittycheria discussed the motivation and potential use cases.

MongoDB aims to provide reference architectures, integrations, and expertise to assist customers who feel “overwhelmed” by the rapidly evolving AI landscape.

“Every week there is a new model announcement,” said Ittycheria. The whole point of the program is to address customers feeling overwhelmed by three things.”

He also highlighted MongoDB’s partnerships with major AI players like Anthropic to enable capabilities like model fine-tuning for specific use cases.

“We have all the hyperscalers as partners and a bunch of cutting edge tech companies focused on orchestration services, as well as fine tuning services to really fine tune models for particular use cases.” he said.

Ittycheria provided an example of an automotive company building an app to diagnose car issues based on recorded sounds.

“You can record the noise in your car, and essentially get quick diagnosis of what the potential problem is because they have a repository of all the potential issues your car may be having,” he commented.

While cautioning it’s still “very early,” he sees substantial motivation for enterprises to leverage AI to enhance customer experience, reduce costs, and drive growth through innovative applications built on large language models and private data.
