Lisa Su Is Betting Big on AI to Redefine the Future of Computing

In an interview last month, AMD CEO Dr. Lisa Su, talked about her past achievements as leader of the chipmaker to the transformative force driving its future: artificial intelligence.

Su didn’t mince words when it came to AI’s potential.

“I’d like to say it’s the most transformational technology that I have seen in my career,” she said. Her belief is rooted not just in the power of large models or enterprise use cases, but in the deeply personal applications that are becoming more visible by the day — from real-time translation to creative tools embedded directly into AI PCs.

AMD has been positioning itself at the heart of this shift, notably with products like the Ryzen AI Max and Strix Halo. Su explained that AMD has long predicted a hybrid world, one where cloud and edge computing complement each other. Local AI processing, she argued, isn’t just a feature — it’s fast becoming a necessity.

“If you think about latency requirements, and if you think about privacy requirements… the beauty of the notebook form factor [is that] you can access your AI capability anywhere,” she said.

Asked about the future of hardware itself, Su maintained her faith in silicon: “I think silicon still has a long way to go — but we have to continue to optimize not just on silicon, but on package, and also on system, and also with software.” This multi-layered approach underscores AMD’s commitment to holistic performance — well beyond just faster chips.

From developing GPUs that run 70-billion-parameter models on laptops to turning gaming PCs into AI powerhouses, AMD is rewriting what’s possible. For Su, AI isn’t just a buzzword — it’s the next frontier of productivity, creativity, and performance. And AMD is leading that charge, one chip at a time.
