OpenAI has agreed to acquire Statsig, a product testing startup, in a $1.1 billion all-stock deal, one of the largest acquisitions in its history. Under the terms of the agreement, Vijaye Raji, Statsig’s founder and CEO, will join OpenAI as CTO of Applications, reporting to Fidji Simo, the newly appointed CEO of the Applications division. Raji will oversee engineering for ChatGPT, Codex, and future application development, while Statsig’s experimentation platform will be integrated to accelerate OpenAI’s product pipeline.
The acquisition coincides with leadership changes at OpenAI. Kevin Weil, formerly Chief Product Officer, will lead a new initiative, OpenAI for Science, focused on building AI-powered tools for discovery. Srinivas Narayanan, head of engineering, will transition to CTO of B2B applications, working with COO Brad Lightcap on enterprise partnerships.
Pending regulatory approval, all Statsig employees will join OpenAI, though the company will continue serving its customer base from its Seattle office.
