Anthropic has named Rahul Patil, former CTO of Stripe, as its new Chief Technical Officer, succeeding co-founder Sam McCandlish, who will transition to Chief Architect. In his new role, Patil will oversee compute, infrastructure, inference, and engineering operations, while McCandlish will continue leading pre-training and large-scale model training. Both will report to Anthropic president Daniela Amodei.
The leadership update comes as Anthropic faces mounting infrastructure competition from OpenAI and Meta, which have committed hundreds of billions to U.S. compute capacity. With demand for Claude products straining existing systems, Patil’s two decades of experience at Stripe, Oracle, Amazon, and Microsoft will be critical in optimizing infrastructure for efficiency, scalability, and reliability as Anthropic expands its enterprise AI platform.
