Coco Robotics Expands Robot Delivery to Chicago Shake Shack Locations Via Uber Eats

Insider Brief

  • Coco Robotics has begun handling Shake Shack deliveries in Chicago through Uber Eats, marking the company’s latest expansion into major U.S. cities as restaurants adopt automation to improve delivery reliability, according to Coco Robotics.
  • The pilot starts with two Chicago locations, with Coco’s sidewalk robots integrating directly into Shake Shack’s Uber Eats workflow to move orders from the kitchen to curbside before completing the last-mile route to customers.
  • Coco said the system is designed to boost fulfillment capacity during peak hours, reduce delivery times and maintain consistency without added delivery fees, supporting Shake Shack’s broader push to streamline operations during colder months.

Coco Robotics, a developer of autonomous sidewalk delivery robots, has begun handling Shake Shack orders in Chicago through Uber Eats, according to the company. The rollout marks Coco’s latest expansion into major U.S. cities as restaurant brands test automation to improve delivery reliability.

Shake Shack is introducing Coco’s delivery robots at two Chicago locations, with plans to expand the service across additional sites. According to Coco Robotics, the delivery units integrate directly into Shake Shack’s existing Uber Eats workflow, allowing orders to move from the kitchen to curbside pickup without extra steps for restaurant staff. The robots then complete the last mile, navigating sidewalks and dense urban areas to reach customers.

“At Shake Shack, we’re always looking for new ways to meet our guests where they are, and this partnership gives us another convenient option to bring the Shack experience to them, especially during the colder months,” said Steph So, Chief Growth Officer at Shake Shack. “We’re excited to see how this technology can make things easier and more fun for both our guests and our team. The robots are intuitive, easy to work with, and bring a little extra joy to delivery.”

Coco said the integration is designed to help restaurants increase fulfillment capacity during peak hours, reduce delivery times and maintain consistency in high-volume markets. The company’s robots operate without added delivery fees and are built to function in high-traffic conditions common to large cities.

Uber Eats, which already partners with Coco in other markets, is expanding its autonomous delivery operations as part of a broader push to increase efficiency on the platform. Coco said the Chicago deployment supports Shake Shack’s broader strategy to improve service during colder months and streamline operations.

“Shake Shack has redefined what a fine casual experience looks like, and we’re proud to help extend that same level of care to their delivery orders,” said Melissa Fahs, Chief Commercial Officer at Coco Robotics.
