Samsung Electronics is creating a robotics division as it looks for new sources of growth, CNBC reported.

The new unit, called RX, for Robotics eXperience, will consolidate Samsung’s robotics capabilities and focus on moving technology from development to commercialization. CEO TM Roh will directly oversee the division, according to CNBC.

Samsung shares rose 6.76% on Tuesday, while South Korea’s benchmark Kospi index gained about 4%. The move adds to Samsung’s moves into physical AI. Earlier this month, Roh said Samsung plans to invest about 60 trillion won, or $40.7 billion, in South Korea’s Yeongnam region, including its Gumi site.

Of that total, 19 trillion won will go to Gumi in partnership with Samsung SDS to develop physical AI infrastructure and humanoid robot manufacturing facilities, CNBC reported. Samsung also raised its stake in Rainbow Robotics in late 2024, becoming the local robotics company’s largest shareholder.

The new robotics unit is expected to establish research bases in the U.S., China and Japan.
