Carbon Robotics has launched a program designed to connect third-party farm implements directly with its autonomous tractor platform, with Great Plains Manufacturing joining as the first equipment maker.
The Carbon Autonomy Ready program establishes technical specifications and an integration process that allows implements from different manufacturers to communicate with Carbon Robotics’ autonomy system. The company said the program will let autonomous tractors adjust attached equipment in real time rather than requiring an operator to make those changes manually.
Great Plains will integrate its Implement Command system with Carbon Autonomy, allowing tractors to receive data from the company’s equipment and automatically adjust settings including working depth, down pressure and leveling.
Carbon Robotics noted the program is meant to work across a broad range of farm equipment as autonomous tractors take on more field operations, from soil preparation to laser weeding. The approach is designed to allow farmers to continue choosing implements from different manufacturers while using Carbon’s autonomy platform.
“We believe the Carbon Autonomy platform can transform the ways that modern farmers work their fields, and Great Plains is the perfect first partner to launch this program,” founder and CEO Paul Mikesell said in the announcement. “Our belief is that autonomous farming implements will help farmers be more efficient and lower costs by extending working hours, solving skilled operator shortages, and increasing tractor utilization.”
Great Plains, based in Kansas, manufactures planting, seeding and soil-management equipment. Its existing Implement Command technology provides the control system that will serve as the starting point for integration with Carbon Autonomy.
“At Great Plains, we see producers continually fine-tuning their operations to capture small, incremental gains in yield and efficiency,” Great Plains product manager Doug Jennings, Sr. added. “Real-time adjustments will be critical to maximizing those efforts. We look forward to expanding sensing, communication, and control channels through this agreement with Carbon Robotics to provide producers with the most efficient, timely field adjustments possible.”
Carbon Robotics and Great Plains plan to demonstrate the integration at the 2026 Farm Progress Show. The companies will display a Great Plains HT1100 Terra-Max equipped with integrated sensors and a Carbon implement kit.
